The Trek Store in Columbus held a pretty cool viewing party for the climbing stage "Mt Ventoux" (the Tour de France) this past Saturday, July 25th as they opened the doors at 8am for their invited guests (actually, the party was open to all). My apologies for just getting to the recap today.
As you approached the front door you were greeted by Pepe' (that's the name I gave him) and then got to meet the real chef inside - "Jeff the French Chef",
as he was on hand wiping up some special French breakfast specialties. To make it real authentic, he even passed out attitude (nah, just kiddin Jeff). We also were entertained by none other than Columbus' own "Piano Peddler" who
kept us all on the edge of our seats with his rendition of "Rocky" as Lance and the others where busy dancin on their pedals climbing the 13.5 miles to the summit of Mt Ventoux.
Thanks to Chris, Mimi (store manager) and to the entire Trek Store team for making this stage so much fun. Oh yeah, thanks to Andy for all the little facts he shared about Mt Ventoux. Matter of fact, I don't think Andy will mind if I share these facts with area 106:
Mount Ventoux Facts:
- First used by the Tour in 1951
- 21.8 km long (that's 13.5 miles) at 7.4%
- Was deforested by ship builders in the 12th century
- The ride takes at least 1 hour 30 minutes for trained amateur riders.
- The record is held by Iban Mayo - 55' 51" !!!
Don't know about you, but I really enjoyed watching the Tour this year on Versus, especially since they shot the race in High Definition. What about the job Lance did? Bradly Wiggins? The Schelk brothers trying their best to out distance Alberto. But, once again, it was a Trek atop the podium in Paris. It's going to be interesting to see how Lances' new team "RadioShack" comes together this fall.
