Busy Weekend.....and a toast to all MOMS on "Mother's Day"

Wings_at_bw3_2It rained pretty steady this past Friday night till about 11pm, but the weather forecast promised to be mostly sunny for all of Saturday. I had just finished putting together the finishing touches to the Fuel 69er and was anxious to get it on the trail. With all the rain of late, I knew the only trail that would be decent to ride would be Mohican, and my plan was to get a several miles on the Top Fuel before noon Saturday.

Along with a chance to ride here's a list of other events I planned to do this Saturday:

  1. help arrange medium sized rocks along my wife's landscaping beds (I hate working in the yard)
  2. pick up her mother's day gift(s)
  3. take pictures of my eldest daughter Rachel and her prom date (Josh) before they set off for their big event (Prom Night)
  4. Meet up with my PA buddy Travis Saeler and join the Ernie's crew for their evening Night Ride

I awoke at 7am Saturday morning to sunny skies and the hope the trails at Mohican where going to be nice and dry.

Fuel_69er_ready_to_roll7:00am: I decided I would wait a few hours before heading to Mohican (about 40 minutes from my home) in order for the trails to dry out a bit. I spoke to Travis Friday night as he planned to hook up with Steve Twining and ride a lap at Mohican around 1pm. Travis then would swing by my house would ride the Ernie's Bicycle Shop Night Ride at 8:30pm.

8:30am: Elizabeth (my wife) made her first run to the stone yard and returned with a load of rocks for our mulch beds (outlining our landscaping beds). We quickly realized we would need to make several runs to the stone yard to complete our task.

10:30am: Next up, my daughter borrowed my Element in order to get her hair done for prom and didn't get back until after noon.

12:30pm: Since I still needed to pick up Elizabeth's Mother's Day gift (before the store closed) I knew my hope of riding Mohican was gone for today. Family and friends would be at the house at 4pm for pictures and I couldn't be late for this. Nonetheless, the pictures went great and my daughter Rachel looked absolutely stunning in her beautiful dress, and shortly after she and her date Josh where off to meet up with friends for dinner prior to the actual prom dance.

Stork_preparing_for_night_ride7:30pm: Travis arrived a bit later at the house than originally planned, but still in enough time to get prepped and some others for the evening Ernie's Towpath Night Ride. A little side note: Travis and Steve finished a lap earlier at Mohican when Travis decided to ride a few miles more but missed his cut off turn and ended up doing another complete lap of 24 miles making for a total of 48 miles! (Travis wouldn't get home and into his bed till about 3am).

10:00pm: Post ride stop to Buffalo Wild Wings in Massillon for a few wings and a cold adult beverage with Pete and Travis.

12midnight: Laying awake in my bed while listening for Rachel and Josh getting back from the prom.

Prepping_for_night_ride_at_erniesWell, I didn't get that 1st ride in on the Fuel, but I still got to enjoy a great ride with Travis, Pete, Ernie, Jeff and the others that join in for the Ernie's Towpath Night Ride. Rachel and Josh got home (on time) after having a wonderful prom, Elizabeth was a real happy not only because of her daughter's prom experience, but also because she had some of the best looking rocks around lining her mulch beds ; and she knew it was about to be "her day" in a few more hours.

That reminds me to say "Happy Mother's Day" to all MOMS on this very special day!!

Bob
